Property Description for 1200 Broadway, 5-G

This exceptional two-bedroom loft is a sophisticated showcase of custom design, exquisite natural materials, and state-of-the-art technology, all framed by magnificent, unobstructed views of the Empire State Building. Vast ceilings, grand proportions, and multiple oversized windows create a true open-loft experience, allowing natural light to stream through the home throughout the day. As evening falls, the views become even more spectacular, with the illuminated Empire State Building and surrounding city lights creating a dramatic New York City backdrop. Enter the apartment into a welcoming seating and lounge area, where a dramatic three-dimensional textured feature wall immediately introduces the residence's distinctive design aesthetic. From here, the home unfolds seamlessly into an expansive great room with soaring ceilings and ample space for both generous living and a separate dining area-equally suited to comfortable everyday living and large-scale entertaining. Natural English oak floors run throughout the residence, complemented by Lutron Grafik T lighting controls, recessed LED downlights, and a 36,000 BTU central air-conditioning system. Bianca Carrara marble, sculptural three-dimensional textured walls, and a Bocci 22 outlet system further distinguish the interiors, reflecting the meticulous attention given to every element of the home. Storage has been exceptionally well considered throughout, with an abundance of discreet and cleverly concealed cabinetry that preserves the home's clean architectural lines. Additional storage is located above the laundry area, providing valuable space without compromising the openness and visual aesthetic of the loft.

The open chef's kitchen flows seamlessly into the great room, creating an inviting environment for both everyday living and entertaining. As beautifully designed as it is exceptionally equipped, the kitchen features an extensive Wolf appliance package including a convection steam oven, convection oven, grill top, and induction cooktop. Additional appliances include a Sub-Zero refrigerator with two freezer compartments, Sub-Zero dual-zone wine storage, Miele dishwasher, and Gaggenau retractable cooking ventilation. MGS stainless-steel faucets and Carrara marble countertops complete this striking and highly functional culinary space.

The extraordinarily large and bright primary bedroom is a serene private retreat, offering generous proportions and abundant natural light. The suite features a custom Molteni&C walk-in closet and shoe storage system-the same sophisticated cabinetry found in Prada showrooms. The primary bathroom is a remarkable composition of stone, stainless steel, and custom craftsmanship. Calacatta Gold marble floors are paired with Boffi Fantini fixtures, a rain shower, a built-in stainless-steel Viola heated towel rack, and a custom Alta Marea vanity finished in spectacular Calacatta Viola marble. A dramatic showcase wall, inspired by Japanese woodblock prints and crafted from Bianca Carrara marble, transforms the room into a work of art. A TOTO Neorest Washlet completes the space. The beautifully appointed second bathroom continues the residence's exacting design language with MGS stainless-steel fixtures and a rain shower. Bianca Carrara marble tile, arranged in a pattern inspired by the lotus flower, adds an elegant sculptural element. The generously proportioned second bedroom enjoys wonderful natural light from its western exposure and features a large closet, making it equally suited for use as a bedroom, guest room, or sophisticated home office.

Throughout the residence, exceptional craftsmanship, custom millwork, rare marble, European fixtures, thoughtfully incorporated technology, and extraordinary storage come together to create a home that is both visually striking and exceptionally livable. With its soaring ceilings, open loft proportions, abundant natural light, and unobstructed Empire State Building views that are equally compelling by day and breathtaking when illuminated at night, this is a truly distinctive New York City residence where architecture, design, light, and luxury meet.

The Gilsey House is one of New York City's great architectural treasures. Originally built in 1867 as a grand hotel, this magnificent historic building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Its richly detailed architecture and storied past provide an extraordinary setting for authentic and spacious loft living in the heart of NoMad. Residents enjoy a video intercom system, key-operated elevators, and seven-day-a-week superintendent and porter service, including acceptance of deliveries and dry cleaning. Building amenities include bicycle storage, personal unit storage, and a laundry room. Live/work is permitted, and pets are welcome. This loft places you at the center of one of Manhattan's most dynamic neighborhoods. The Ned, Ace Hotel, and Ritz-Carlton are just steps away, while Whole Foods Market, Eataly, Fairway Market, and Trader Joe's make everyday shopping exceptionally convenient. Dining options abound, from casual neighborhood favorites to some of New York's most celebrated restaurants. Zaytinya, Shake Shack, The Smith, Scarpetta, and Eleven Madison Park are all nearby, putting an extraordinary range of casual and fine dining within blocks of the Gilsey House. Transportation is equally convenient, with the N, R, W, 1, 6, and PATH trains all nearby, providing easy access throughout Manhattan and beyond. Madison Square Park is less than a five-minute walk away and is home to one of New York City's most popular dog parks-an especially welcome amenity for pet owners. Enjoy incredible, spacious loft living surrounded by the energy of NoMad, while coming home to the history, character, and architectural grandeur of one of New York City's true landmark buildings-the Gilsey House.

NoMad | Manhattan

Quick Profile

NoMad, North of Madison Square Park, is a rectangular swath of land that is bordered by East 25th Street to the south, East 29th Street to the north, Sixth Avenue to the west, and depending who you ask, Madison or Lexington Avenue to the East. It’s had its acronymed name for over two decades but not every New Yorker calls the neighborhood NoMad.

Historic architecture, trendy hotels and restaurants and high-priced apartments - NoMad wasn’t always the coveted neighborhood that it is today. It’s gone through many transformations over the years. Including a red light district known as the Tenderloin in the 1880’s. It was a popular shopping destination and a place where high society held court in the mid 19th century. It was part of New York City’s Silicon Alley in the 1990’s.

As of lately, world class chefs and restaurants have moved into NoMad. It’s tied with Midtown Manhattan for having the most Michelin stars (six stars to date). Besides NoMad’s architecture, nightlife, and restaurants, we can’t forget the added perk of being close to other great neighborhoods and cultural institutions. NoMad’s central location makes it easier to get just about anywhere in the city. You can walk to Chelsea, West Village, Union Square or Grand Central Station in no time at all. The N, R, 1, 6, B, Q, F, and M are very close or just a few blocks away. Penn Station is also within walking distance.
