Property Description for 457 West 22nd Street, C

Probably the most beautiful apartment you have ever seen. Set on tree-lined West 22nd Street in Chelsea, this home spans the width of two townhouses and was meticulously designed by Rick Livingston, with every detail considered and every finish precisely chosen. From the proportions of the rooms to the profile of the baseboards, the handmade hinges and the concealed cabinetry, nothing has been overlooked. Twelve-foot ceilings, oversized windows and two working fireplaces create a striking setting, while a private terrace overlooking planted gardens offers a quiet retreat. The living room is anchored by a handcrafted steel-and-brass fireplace, with tall French doors opening directly onto the terrace. A separate dining room features lacquered walls and a motorized curtain that closes the space for intimate dinners. Wire-brushed white oak floors, custom eight-foot doors and handmade satin nickel and brass hardware carry a consistent standard of craftsmanship throughout. Lighting, shades and climate controls are thoughtfully integrated, allowing the architecture and materials to take center stage. The custom Poggenpohl kitchen pairs Bendheim glass finishes with tundra grey marble counters and backsplash. Motorized drawers and integrated appliances maintain the cabinetry’s clean lines, while a Thermador refrigerator and a comprehensive suite of Miele appliances make the space as functional as it is beautiful. The primary bedroom features a Nero Dorato marble fireplace, extensive concealed custom storage and direct terrace access. Its adjoining bathroom is finished in book-matched Calacatta Borghini marble with a Zuma jetted tub. A separate den offers flexibility as an office or second bedroom, complemented by a second full bathroom with Nero Dorato marble and an oversized shower. Chelsea | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The row houses portray the world-class architecture of Greek Revival, Italianate and Georgian styles. The population is both ethnically and socially diverse, which is reflected in the restaurants and retail businesses in the neighborhood.

Western Chelsea is the center of the NYC art world, where you will find more than 200 art galleries housed in rehabbed factories and warehouses, as well as in newly-constructed buildings.

While people of many different cultures call Chelsea home, it has been a mecca over the years for people in the LGBTQ community. One census reported that as many as 22% of its residents were gay couples. Eighth Avenue is a trendy area for LGBTQ-oriented dining and shopping. Although it no longer draws the LGBTQ population that it once did, Chelsea still has many popular alternative bars.

Chelsea is primarily residential, consisting of a mixture of diverse complexes, low-rise apartment blocks, tenements, townhouses, renovated row houses, and luxury high-rises.

Chelsea is an interesting and sought-after place to live, with unique clothing boutiques, restaurants, and delis representing cultures from around the world. In addition to its quirky establishments, Chelsea has fine dining restaurants and a vibrant, hip nightlife, which adds to its allure.

Chelsea is well-served by public transportation. At least six city bus routes traverse Chelsea. There are three NYC subway routes with stops on Seventh Avenue, three on Eighth Avenue, and two more on Sixth Avenue. The 34th Street - Hudson Yards Station opened in 2015 with its main entrance in Chelsea.
