121 West 131st Street, Apt. 2 Harlem One-Bedroom Condo with a Private Backyard

A renovated, approximately 717-square-foot one-bedroom condominium with a 435-square-foot private backyard, Residence 2 at 121 West 131st Street brings together brownstone character, modern comforts, and generous outdoor living in Harlem.
Set on the parlor level of an 1890s brownstone on a picturesque landmark block, this floor-through home features soaring 11-foot ceilings, exposed brick, stained glass, ornate millwork, a decorative fireplace mantel, and hardwood floors. Central heating and air conditioning controlled by a Nest thermostat provide year-round comfort.

South-facing living-room windows welcome natural light into the living and entertaining spaces. The open kitchen features a Samsung five-burner range with a vented hood and integrated lighting, a GE French-door refrigerator/freezer, a Bosch dishwasher, and a full pantry with custom closet storage. An adjoining dining area offers the flexibility to serve as a study or home office.
The quiet bedroom features a wall of windows, a separate dressing area, and a walk-in closet with California Closets built-ins. A Samsung large-capacity washer and dryer add everyday convenience.

The private backyard extends the home's living space outdoors. Measuring approximately 435 square feet, it features wood decking, custom planters, and room for outdoor dining, entertaining, and lounging-a distinctive amenity for a Manhattan one-bedroom condo.
A private storage room of approximately 65 square feet transfers with the apartment, providing valuable additional space.

Building amenities include a video intercom system, a fully equipped gym, and a furnished common roof deck with barbecue grills. No board approval is required.

Near the 2/3 express trains, with access to the A/B/C/D subway lines and Metro-North, this Harlem condominium combines a residential brownstone setting with convenient connections across Manhattan and beyond. Nearby dining, shopping, and everyday essentials include Whole Foods, Target, and neighborhood favorites.

Harlem | Manhattan

Quick Profile

The neighborhood called West Harlem by the locals is known as Manhattanville to neighborhood newcomers. The area is culturally diverse and might be considered a microcosm of the city as a whole.

Columbia University has recently expanded into the area, which is attracting student residents from all over the world. Together with students from the City College of New York and young professionals fleeing higher prices in other neighborhoods, this influx of younger residents has brought with it more restaurants and bars on W 125th Street to serve this clientele. There are also new ventures, like a rock-climbing gym, to cater to the interests of these students and young professionals. At the same time, there are many small, family-owned shops and restaurants that have been anchors of the neighborhood for multiple generations.

The area has been through a housing upgrade, as older properties have been renovated and abandoned properties have been razed to make room for new development. There are still reasonably priced apartments available. Young professionals are finding that there is a certain cachet to living in West Harlem. It provides a convenient commute to the city and all of its amenities, while providing a sense of escape at the end of a long work day.

While rentals are popular with the student population, the young professionals are delighted to find pre-war brownstones, pre-war co-ops (including some income-capped HDFCs for lower- and middle-income buyers), and post-war condos that they can afford, although prices are rising. Some new low-rise developments, sporting virtual doormen and desired amenities, are cropping up.
