About Dunolly Gardens Built in 1939 in the Art Moderne style and designed by renowned architect Andrew J. Thomas, Dunolly Gardens was the last garden apartment complex constructed in the Jackson Heights Historic District. It is also the only garden complex in the district to occupy an entire city block, extending from 34th to 35th Avenue. At the heart of Dunolly Gardens is its magnificent, block-long landscaped garden, a peaceful green oasis in the middle of the city. Winding pathways, inviting benches, mature plantings, and a cherry tree-lined inner courtyard with outdoor dining tables create wonderful spaces to relax, read, socialize, or enjoy a meal outdoors. Inspired by London's Garden City Movement, Andrew J. Thomas was a pioneering architect responsible for several of Jackson Heights' most distinguished residential complexes, including The Chateau, The Towers, and Dunolly Gardens. Residents enjoy on-site management, a live-in superintendent, and porters, along with elevators, laundry facilities, a party room, bicycle storage, and storage rooms. The beautifully maintained garden is a centerpiece of community life, hosting seasonal decorations, holiday celebrations, and the neighborhood's celebrated annual garden tour. Please note that a monthly $305.28 assessment is in place. The Best of Jackson Heights at Your Doorstep Dunolly Gardens is just steps from Travers Park, a neighborhood favorite with a playground, tennis courts, and a year-round farmers' market. The surrounding Jackson Heights neighborhood is renowned for its extraordinary culinary diversity, with some of New York City's most celebrated international restaurants, specialty food markets, cheese and wine shops, neighborhood cafés, and major supermarkets all close by. Transportation is exceptionally convenient. The Roosevelt Avenue–Jackson Heights transit hub is a short walk away, offering E, F, M, R, and 7 subway service, along with excellent bus connections. Midtown Manhattan, world-class museums, theaters, and cultural attractions are all within easy reach. The neighborhood also offers convenient access to the BQE and both LaGuardia and JFK airports. Nearby Queens destinations include the Museum of the Moving Image, Queens Museum, New York Hall of Science, Louis Armstrong House Museum, Noguchi Museum, Flushing Meadows Corona Park, the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Citi Field, and the future New York City FC stadium. Jackson Heights | Queens

Quick Profile

Jackson Heights has one of the most diverse populations in the city, and over 100 languages are spoken here. With this cultural diversity comes supporting restaurants, bars, shops and cultural opportunities. It is a mix of commercial and residential properties. There is a wide range of shops and service businesses, so that anything you would need, from a barber, to a pharmacy, to clothing, and food is available right in the neighborhood, no matter which culture or language you might need these services provided in.

Jackson Heights has three nicknames, based on micro-neighborhoods with the neighborhood as a whole. Little India occupies an area on 74th Street, while parts of 73rd Street are known as Little Pakistan. Little Columbia is along 37th Avenue.

A large portion of Jackson Heights has been designated as an historic district, from Roosevelt Avenue to Northern Boulevard, between the east side of 76th Street to the west side of 88th Street.

Jackson Heights was a planned community, where the first “garden apartments” were created in buildings constructed around central gardens and green spaces that gave neighbors a place to meet and socialize with one another, created places for children to play, allowing light to come into the apartments and air to flow freely through them. These gardens are private and only residents have access to them. Passing by the buildings, you might not even guess the gardens were there, as they are not generally visible from the street.

Additionally, there are some mid-rise apartment buildings. Some of these are rentals, some are co-ops, and some are condos. There are a few attached row houses that provide housing for one to three families.

As much as Jackson Heights might be full of noise and mix of cultures, it also has a quieter side, where the various cultures mix and mingle and learn about each other against a backdrop of beautiful architecture and a culinary landscape that brings the world to Queens.
