Turtle Bay Towers is a full-service building, with live-in super, 24 hour doorman, roof deck, laundry on premises Set on a serene stretch of Midtown East just down the block from the United Nations Headquarters, Turtle Bay Towers is a full-service luxury building set in a historic prewar property. Built in 1929 as an NYC design school and known for its striking terraced facade, the 27-story tower was briefly home to a print factory. In 1979, its careful conversion to 338 luxury apartments was noted with the First Honor Award from the American Institute of Architects. The apartments here feature 12- to 14-foot ceilings, with some offering wide-open views of the Midtown skyline and the East River.

On-site amenities at this pet-friendly property include a large renovated lobby with two sitting areas, a rooftop terrace, laundry, storage, bike room, and a parking garage, plus 24-hour doorman service and a live-in super. With a venerable history dating back to New Amsterdam, Turtle Bay is the most tranquil corner of Midtown Manhattan, known for its quiet tree-lined streets and beautiful green spaces. United Nations Plaza is just down the street, while Grand Central Station is a few blocks in the other direction and all the appeal of living in the heart of Manhattan is moments away.

Turtle Bay | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Turtle Bay is best known for hosting the world’s dignitaries at United Nations once a year as the world institution sits on the eastern edge of the neighborhood along the East River.

But this midtown location offers a lot more, a bustling neighborhood teeming with high-rise apartment buildings and an easy walk to the Midtown business district.

Over the past two decades, developers have assembled almost every corner development site along Second Avenue and have built straight up. Not much left to assemble.

Some of the more glamorous, and of course most expensive, addresses are in close proximity to the United Nations. Trump World Tower, which caused a big stir with area residents, in particular, Walter Cronkite, when it was built sits just north of the United Nations Grounds.

In contrast to the proliferation of the residential highrise, Turtle Bay does have some lovely tree-lined streets between the avenues. In particular, Turtle Bay Gardens, which fronts both 48th Street and 49th Street between Third and Second Avenue has always been a haven for the rich and famous.
