The large living room with a wood burning fireplace offers dramatic space for entertaining and comfortable living. If desired, a separate dining area is easily created. The primary bedroom has French doors with opaque glass and each of the two bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom. The large south-facing windows fill the main rooms with light and air. The apartment's impressive prewar details include high beamed ceilings and handsome wood floors. The windowed kitchen has high end appliances, a wrap-around counter and floorspace for both a kitchen table and desk nook. The full-size washer and vented dryer units are conveniently in the kitchen. 444 East 52nd Street, built in 1929, is an elegant, full-service cooperative with a live-in super. The elevators are currently undergoing renovation. Mail and newspapers are delivered straight to your door and the building staff is responsive to residents' needs. Set on a quiet and idyllic cul-de-sac, overlooking the East River, this peaceful home is a short walk from midtown, giving you the best of both worlds. Pied a Terre is permitted with board approval.

Beekman Place | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Beekman Place is less of a neighborhood than it is a quiet two-block enclave just north of the United Nations on the far eastern edge of Turtle Bay. There is only one street that runs through the neighborhood, also called Beekman Place, that wraps itself around 49th Street and 51st Street.

This bucolic little stretch of the east side has always been a cherished spot for those fortunate enough to have found refuge here. The noise and the street traffic from the city surrounds is virtually non-existent as there are no through streets in this neighborhood.

The neighborhood composition largely consists of a few clusters of townhouses and prewar co-ops. The exception to the rule is the charming art-deco-styled Beekman Place Hotel at the corner of First Avenue and 49th Street and the two post-war towers, 860 and 870 UN Plaza that front the grounds of the United Nations.
