Property Description for 240 East 55th Street, 3-H

Huge alcove studio with sunny south views of quiet townhouse gardens from 18 feet of windows in the center of Midtown Manhattan! The kitchen is tastefully renovated with lots of cabinets and soft-close drawers. There are two display window cabinets and good counter space. The apartment needs a paint job and new floors. The bathroom has been updated, but would benefit from a new sink and vanity. A separate dressing area off the sleeping alcove has a double-closet and there are coat and storage closets in the foyer. 240 E 55 Street is a sought-after cooperative in a fantastic Midtown location. Most of the apartments in this building are alcove studios, and because they are so large, many have converted into 1-bedrooms (see StreetEasy's floor plan archive). Doorman services Tue-Fri 4PM-12AM and Sat-Mon 8AM-12AM. Live-in super and full-time porter/handyman. Storage/Bike room and Laundry Room in the basement. Pied-a-terre, co-purchase, parents buying for children (and vice versa) considered. Unlimited subletting permitted after 1 year. NO flip tax!

Turtle Bay | Manhattan

Quick Profile

Turtle Bay is best known for hosting the world’s dignitaries at United Nations once a year as the world institution sits on the eastern edge of the neighborhood along the East River.

But this midtown location offers a lot more, a bustling neighborhood teeming with high-rise apartment buildings and an easy walk to the Midtown business district.

Over the past two decades, developers have assembled almost every corner development site along Second Avenue and have built straight up. Not much left to assemble.

Some of the more glamorous, and of course most expensive, addresses are in close proximity to the United Nations. Trump World Tower, which caused a big stir with area residents, in particular, Walter Cronkite, when it was built sits just north of the United Nations Grounds.

In contrast to the proliferation of the residential highrise, Turtle Bay does have some lovely tree-lined streets between the avenues. In particular, Turtle Bay Gardens, which fronts both 48th Street and 49th Street between Third and Second Avenue has always been a haven for the rich and famous.
